Miss Cass announces MCW’s “New Talent Initiative”

Ireland’s Andrew Phoenix is part of MCW’s “New Initiative”

In a bid to introduce some fresh faces into the product, Melbourne City Wrestling’s Executive Producer, Miss Cass, has announced the creation of the ‘New Talent Initiative’. What that means is we will now see several new faces popping up around Melbourne City Wrestling over the next couple of shows, some of whom have already made appearances as of late, and some who will appear this Friday at the Dragonfly, and at Ballroom Brawl on July 14.

On top of that, Miss Cass has announced a ‘Junior Executive’ for the shows, naming Jake Lindo as her chosen assistant. Lindo is an accomplished wrestler in his own right, having already faced the likes of KrackerJak and Dowie James in MCW competition thus far this year. But we here at MCW News decided to take a look at the rest of the new faces that you can expect to see over the next month:

ANDREW PHOENIX:

Andrew Phoenix made his debut on Australian soil at ‘Talk of the Town’ in April, and was immediately thrown into the deep end, coming up short against ‘The Natural’ Mike Petersen. Impressing MCW management in the process, Phoenix notched up a win over Danny Psycho the following month, albeit under controversial circumstances.

Hailing from Dublin, Ireland, Andrew Phoenix is no rookie, having competed in his home country for several years prior to moving to Melbourne, and was trained under the watchful eye of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s “Prince” Fergal Devitt, a former two time IWGP Junior Heavyweight & six time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion.

Phoenix is well versed in not just a cruiserweight style of wrestling, but a technical style as well, and you can expect to see a lot more of his impressive in-ring repertoire coming to light over the coming months.

The Vanity Project have spent time in the US training with Booker T.

THE VANITY PROJECT:

Fans will find Seth Taylor (pictured right) very familiar; he has appeared on and off for Melbourne City Wrestling as far back as March 2011, facing the likes of Carlo Cannon and Team Silva. But after a short period of time away, he returned with a completely different attitude. Gone was the high fiving, smiling babyface, and in its place was an arrogant, brash, cocky competitor, whose attitude immediately started rubbing veteran roster members the wrong way.

This attitude caused a vicious defeat at the hands of Dowie James at ‘Night of the Grudges’, but even that has not been enough to stop Taylor, who found himself a common ally in Josh ‘The Axe’ Shooter, who made his MCW debut on the same show, and managed to immediately rile up both the MCW faithful, and former champion Slex, within seconds of stepping through the curtain.

Both of these two top prospects traveled together to America late last year, finding themselves under the tutelage of the five time world champion, Booker T. The result has been an increase in skill and ability, but also the creation of two of the most disrespectful rookies to ever step into Melbourne City Wrestling. Collectively known as the Vanity Project, Josh Shooter & Seth Taylor are out to make a name for themselves at the expense of anyone and everyone who (rightfully) decides to question them. But will this be their eventual undoing? Time will tell.

Siren Monroe is set to make her MCW debut.

SIREN MONROE:

Although she is still in her second year as a professional wrestler, twenty-year-old Siren Monroe is not someone to mess with. Prior to her wrestling debut, she was trained in several forms of karate, becoming a first dan black belt at just sixteen years of age.

Looking for a new challenge, Monroe turned her attention to professional wrestling. Having been trained by MCW’s own ‘Monarch of the Macabre’, Jacko Lantern, management have decided to give her a shot at proving her worth among the elite female athletes already on the MCW roster. Her first opponent in Melbourne City Wrestling is Kellie Skater, who has been hailed as one of the most technically sound female wrestlers worldwide, having competed in America, Canada & Japan. Find out if Siren Monroe has what it takes on Friday June 29 at the Dragonfly in Tullamarine!

BIG SUGAR:

Little is known about the man monster formerly known as ‘Morphine’. Originally hailing from Tauranga, New Zealand, the man now known among his few associates as ‘Big Shug’ is one of the largest professional wrestlers in this country today. Underestimate his size though, and pay the price; Big Sugar is deceptively agile, and has been known to finish his opponents with a top rope splash.

We understand that these five individuals may not be the only ones who are forming the ‘New Talent Initiative’ in MCW, and we look forward to revealing some more fresh faces as the months go on. Stay tuned for more developments.
