Carnival of Horrors 2 announced for Worlds Collide

For months now, we’ve seen the war between Melbourne City Wrestling and Riot City Wrestling rage on. After MCW began a handshake agreement with the South Australian promotion at the start of the year, it didn’t take long for things to go completely pear shaped, and the hostile takeover attempt from RCW has played out in front of audiences both in Melbourne and in Adelaide ever since. The war with RCW rages on at The Dragonfly

Brad Smyth in his last MCW appearance at Ballroom Brawl in July.

For over 6 months now, we’ve seen the rivalry between Melbourne City Wrestling and Riot City Wrestling continue to take over our events. On numerous occasions, we’ve seen the MCW Championship on the verge of being won by one of the South Australians, but due to the tightly knit MCW roster and fanbase, it has always managed to remain in Victoria where it belongs.

Now, on October 26, we will see more members of the RCW try to make a name for themselves at the expense of the MCW mainstays. One of them is no stranger to our fans: Brad Smyth. Smyth made his presence felt at MCW Ballroom Brawl in July, as he scored a cheap win over Andrew Phoenix, with help from his fellow South Australians. Now, he faces a tougher, more insane challenge, as for the first time ever, he will face the Mad Bastard, KrackerJak! Continue reading →

Benny Coles makes his MCW in-ring debut at World Collide

Benny Coles is set to make his MCW debut at Worlds Collide on November 16.

Ben Coles will be no stranger to many of our loyal fans. He has been plastered all over billboards, in newspapers, and on television advertisements as ‘Iron Jay’, promoting I&J’s food products.

At ‘Grand Final Eve Showdown’ in September, Coles appeared as a guest of Melbourne City Wrestling, but was immediately targeted by Andrew Phoenix. Phoenix feels as though he’s been overlooked by MCW ever since his debut, claiming he’d been cheated out of wins since April, and then introducing his new valet Zoe O’Neill as his back up plan. Slex vs Carlo announced for Worlds Collide

Slex and Carlo Cannon are set to face off in the ultimate grudge match at Worlds Collide

Once, they were best friends. Now, they are at the forefront of one of the most bitterly personal rivalries in Melbourne City Wrestling history.

Carlo Cannon and Slex used to be a tag team to be reckoned with. Teaming up originally in 2009, they became the EPW Tag Team Champions in Western Australia, before losing the belts to Shane Haste and Mikey Nicholls, who would later re-invent themselves as TMDK, and sign a contract with Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan. Meanwhile, they took the professional wrestling scene on the east coast by storm, teaming together in Queensland, Canberra, and of course in Melbourne, under the name of ‘Cash Money Addiction’. Worlds Collide preview match announced for The Dragonfly

Mike Petersen standing over Matt Silva at Westend Riot

On Friday October 26, MCW fans will be treated to what will be quite possibly the biggest tag team matchup in history, as we make our last stop on the road to our second anniversary spectacular, ‘Worlds Collide’.

Just a few days out from Halloween, we will see the four participants in the top two headlining bouts at Worlds Collide square off in a tag team match where there are no guarantees that anyone will get along. On one side, the MCW Champion, Matt Silva, will team up with a man who he knows very well as a foe, Slex. On the other side, the number one contender, Mike Petersen, will team up with a man whose personality could not be any more of a polar opposite, Carlo Cannon. Continue reading →

5 Minutes with Dowie James

Dowie James celebrates victory over Josh Shooter at Westend Riot last month.

Even though he is still in his early twenties, Dowie James (formerly Champagne Pyro) has been involved with Australian wrestling for nearly half his life. Competing in his first match before he was even half way through high school, Dowie was quick to make his mark on the local wrestling scene. Since then, he has dazzling crowds with his high flying assault and intense battles against many of this country’s elite. Since making his debut at MCW, Dowie has upped his game, and has provided fans with such highlights as sending Carlo Cannon off the balcony – through the merchandise desk at The Thornbury Theatre. He then followed this up with a five star bout against Cletus, hitting his patented Tiger Bomb through a table from the top rope at our debut at 1000 Pound Bend a couple of months ago. Roger Ventura returns to MCW at Worlds Collide

Roger Ventura is making his way back to Melbourne for World Collide

In December 2011, Melbourne City Wrestling fans were introduced to Roger Ventura, a man who is considered among many to be the absolute best professional wrestler in New Zealand today. However, in his MCW debut, the former AWF Commonwealth Champion came up short against Matt Silva, en route to Silva’s MCW Championship Title win the following month. Continue reading →

Main event set for October 26 at The Dragonfly

Hard Way Inc and Reckless Air, squaring off at Westend Riot, will now meet properly at the Dragonfly October 26.

For the last month, we have seen the rise of Hard Way Inc, who have been out to make a name for themselves at the expense of every other tag team in Melbourne City Wrestling. First, they attacked Robbie Eagles & Adam Brooks after their win against TMDK at Westend Riot on September 14, and then at Grand Final Eve Showdown, they jumped KrackoLantern from behind in similar fashion.
