MCW Fourth Anniversary Extravaganza – More Than Just “Australian Wrestling”

In October 2010, Melbourne City Wrestling took over the several decade long legacy of Australian Championship Wrestling, holding its first event under the new branding at the Thornbury Theatre. The night would showcase many of Melbourne’s top professional wrestlers, as well as new faces from around the rest of the country, who had not yet been introduced to Victorian audiences. Now, on Saturday November 1st, Melbourne City Wrestling celebrates four years of thrilling live events, as we present our ‘Fourth Anniversary Extravaganza’ at the Essendon Ukrainian Hall.

Wrestlers from all around the nation will be competing in seven massive matches on November 1st, but the accolades that so many members of our roster have had, not just around Australia, but across the globe, have often gone un-noticed or may not even be realised by much of our loyal fanbase. Indeed, the majority of the men and women that compete for Melbourne City Wrestling month in and month out hold a substantial amount of international experience. Lets go down the list…

kj-gam

KrackerJak’s vicious attack with a fork on Mr Juicy at MCW Worlds Collide last month left fans angry, scared and disappointed.

The last time anyone saw the man appropriately labeled as ‘The Mad Bastard’, he was storming out the front door of the Tullamarine Public Hall, having just bloodied the fan favourite ‘

Mr Juicy’ Gino Gambino in the middle of the ring, and leaving behind a stunned, shocked and angry MCW audience. MCW management were forced to post an apology over Facebook to all MCW fans for KrackerJak’s actions however KrackerJak himself had not been seen or heard from since that infamous night.

5 Minutes with Dowie James

Dowie James celebrates victory over Josh Shooter at Westend Riot last month.

Even though he is still in his early twenties, Dowie James (formerly Champagne Pyro) has been involved with Australian wrestling for nearly half his life. Competing in his first match before he was even half way through high school, Dowie was quick to make his mark on the local wrestling scene. Since then, he has dazzling crowds with his high flying assault and intense battles against many of this country’s elite. Since making his debut at MCW, Dowie has upped his game, and has provided fans with such highlights as sending Carlo Cannon off the balcony – through the merchandise desk at The Thornbury Theatre. He then followed this up with a five star bout against Cletus, hitting his patented Tiger Bomb through a table from the top rope at our debut at 1000 Pound Bend a couple of months ago. Andrew Phoenix has made quite an impression with MCW fans since his debut in April this year.

In April, MCW hosted ‘Talk of the Town’ at the Dragonfly where former WWE star Paul London faced off against Slex. That night also saw the MCW debut of another international wrestler with Ireland’s Andy Phoenix facing Mike Peterson. In his first 4 matches, Andy Phoenix has faced a baptism of fire facing Peterson, Danny Psycho, Mike Burr (with a lot of help from Jay Andrews) and RCW’s Brad Smyth. 2 weeks ago at the Dragonfly he was attacked by Hard Way Inc for a second time in less than a month. With Tommy Hellfire on his side, he will face Hard Way Inc in an even contest at 1000 Pound Bend on August 18.
